SAC ACTIVE WELCOMING NEW STUDENTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State University Student-Alumni Council (SAC) proudly volunteered throughout Welcome Week, acclimating incoming freshman students to their new campus home. SAC strives to serve students past, present, and future, with the class of 2011 in mind during the Welcome Week festivities held from Sunday September 16th – Sunday September 23rd. Events included: Residence Hall Move-In, Convocation, Student Involvement Fair, Community Commitment, Scarlet Fever, Grilling with Gee, President’s Picnic, ice cream socials, Late Night at the RPAC, Inaugural Campus Spelling Bee and Welcome Week Concert featuring T-Pain, Kelly Rowland, and Mario.
The Ohio State University Student-Alumni Council (SAC)’s very own Matt Van Jura was chairman of Welcome Week 2007. He planned Welcome Week 2007 “There’s No Place Like OSU” compiling a busy calendar of events which included Move-In, Convocation, Involvement Fair, Community Commitment, and much more. One of the events new to Welcome Week that Mr. Van Jura created was the “Inaugural Campus Spelling Bee” held at the RPAC Friday, September 21st. Mr. Van Jura commented about his involvement in planning Welcome Week, saying "It's been an incredible summer, and seeing all the students back on campus and excited for the new year has made it all worth while."
The Ohio State University Student-Alumni Council (SAC) held a strong presence at Convocation with 26 volunteers including: Andrew Pyo, David Maclean, Kaeleigh Farrish, Kelly Mirgon, Pete Steele, Maryann Augustine, Sara Kolfhoff, Tom Hammer, Amanda Robison, Nicole Staples, Courtney Banks, Anita Robison, Jen Villard, Taylor Meadows, Darci Mossbarger, Brittany O'Neil, Laura Rizzo, Diana Silveira, Brandon Price, Alison Cress, Paul Barash, Ashley Taylor, Stephaine Stelmaschuk, Sujie Kim, Amanda Alvarez, and Shelley Campana. In addition to Convocation, SAC also volunteered helping set up for the Involvement Fair starting at 6am, and participating in Involvement Fair, talking to new students about SAC. On Tuesday, 28 SACers volunteered for Community Commitment, a day to give back to the community. These individuals included: Katie Zatroch, Lona Sharma, Matt Starr, Greg Ebersole, Casey Dekker, Jerry Dunleavy, Kelly Mirgon, Brittany O'Neill, Darci Mossbarger, Courtney Banks, Brent Ribble, Nicole Staples (planner), Priyanka Joshi (planner), Brian Carlberg, Shelley Campana, Brandon Price, Dan Do, Gabe Lockhart, Amanda Graver (site leader), Dan Braden, Shannon Smith, Luis Sanchez, Barbara Barash, Rob Bonacci (site leader), Pete Steele (site leader), Tom Vetter (site leader), Michael Eizyk (site leader), and Kaeleigh Farrish (site leader). SACers also volunteered at Scarlet Fever, these individuals include: Matt Magyar, Priyanka Joshi, Alisha Park, Matt Starr, Casey Dekker, Jillian Zientek, Elizabeth Moeller, Laurel Horn, Darci Mossbarger, Brittany O'Neill, Brandon Price, Jennifer Villard, Barbara Barash, Brent Ribble, Sally Nau, Amanda Robison, Erin Orndorff, Nicole Staples, Brian Carlberg, Teresa Pratt, Dan Do, Joe Lachey, Tom Hammer, Gabe Lockhart, Amanda Graver, Dan Braden, Shannon Smith, Sujie Kim, Sachin Sharma, Rob Bonacci, Jeff Gannon, Shelly Campana, Sarah Cummings, David MacLean, Brittany Conner, Malorie Woitovich, Nick Holtkamp, and Jerry Dunleavy. On Friday, Matt Van Jura introduced the new event for Welcome Week, the “Inaugural Campus Spelling Bee” during “Late Night” at the RPAC. Volunteers included: Kelly Mirgon, Paul Barash, Brandon Price, Sally Nau, Kyle Brewer, Annie Specht, Pete Steele, Lona Sharma, Barbara Barash, Jimmy Regennitter, Kathleen Nemer, and Stephanie Stelmaschuk.
The Student-Alumni Council is a student advancement organization dedicated to
serving Ohio State students past, present, and future through the support and
coordination of university and The Ohio State University Alumni Association,
Inc. events. A member of the Association for Student Advancement Programs
(ASAP) and its parent organization, the Council for Advancement and Support of
Education (CASE), SAC strives to advance The Ohio State University through
programs which enhance the student experience, promote student-alumni
interaction and establish a spirit of loyalty to the university.
