COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Student-Alumni Council (SAC) and members of The Ohio Union worked together to create Commencement Week, a time of celebration for graduating students, for the first time at Ohio State this year.  Commencement Week was held during the final week of Spring Quarter.  The Student-Alumni Council created three events to connect graduating students to alumni in hopes of forming lasting relationships and ties back to a mutual Alma Matter.

The Time and Change Tailgate was held on Friday, June 6, immediately after commencement rehearsal at the Recreational Physical Activities Center (RPAC) Plaza.  The event was sponsored by The Ohio Union, The Alumni Association, Coke, University Catering and the Ohio Union Activities Board (OUAB).  Members of The Student-Alumni Council, The Ohio State University Alumni Association and The Ohio Union volunteered their time at the event.  The tailgate was intended to create a fun and positive atmosphere to celebrate graduation, while providing an opportunity for seniors to mingle with The Ohio State University Alumni Association members about staying involved with Ohio State after graduation.  There was music, food and fun activities and games to create a lasting memory.

The Commencement Eve Ceremony was held on Saturday, June 7, on the Oval at 9pm the night before graduation. The event featured three speakers Dr. Gee, Mike Repasky, a graduating senior who gave the address and Archie Griffin.  The Men’s Glee Club Alumni Society sang a candle light rendition of Carmen Ohio, while students watched a reflective slideshow created by Makio. Kate Christobek, outgoing President of the Undergraduate Student Government, was the Master of Ceremonies.  The event was created to capture one of the last memorable experiences as undergraduate students of OSU and to wish the graduating students luck in all their future endeavors.

Finally, on the morning of Commencement, Sunday, June 8, member s of The Student-Alumni Council passed out cookies and water to the graduates as they prepared to enter the stadium for the ceremony.  Each student was given a card with the first year as members of The Ohio State University Alumni Association free.

The Student-Alumni Council is a student advancement organization dedicated to serving Ohio State students past, present, and future through the support and coordination of university and The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Inc. events.  A member of the Association for Student Advancement Programs (ASAP) and its parent organization, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), SAC strives to advance The Ohio State University through programs which enhance the student experience, promote student-alumni interaction and establish a spirit of loyalty to the university.
